Located at 15 Barrow Street in Greenwich Village NYC, Café Bohemia was a jazz club frequented by iconic jazz bands of the late 1950's such as the Miles Davis Quintet, Art Blakey's original Jazz Messengers, and Kenny Dorham's Jazz Prophets.
Miles Davis assembled his first regular quintet at the Café Bohemia in the summer of 1955 with John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums.
The First Great Quintet was one of the definitive hard bop groups along with the Brown-Roach Quintet and the Jazz Messengers, recording the Columbia albums Round About Midnight, Milestones, and the marathon sessions for Prestige Records resulting in four albums collected on The Legendary Prestige Quintet Sessions.
The duo was photographed by Marvin Koner during the quintet's stay at the club in 1956. The red hue was due to a red fluorescent light above the bandstand.
This T-shirt will be screen printed on the urban heavyweight tee from Lane Seven, a premium tee featuring 100% Ring-spun combed cotton and a super soft hand-feel.

Love it, love it; love it. Wore it to the Richmond Jazz Festival and everywhere I went people were either giving me a thumbs up or asking for the site information.

Love this shirt! Great quality and comfortable, and the graphic really pops without being too obvious. It's been interesting to receive responses from people while I'm out and about wearing it. You never know who might me a Coltrane or Davis fan... it's a conversation starter with the best people.
